Google Claws

Google is slowly falling for the lures of the Dark Side. What do you expect as the first result on a query restricted to the blog.com domain? If you said anything else than blogger.com, you failed. Do No Evil.

1 - That's not the "first result", that's a Tip. ;-) (Comment this)

2 - I've been noticing that, recently, Google has been adopting a much more aggressive posture towards promoting Blogger. (Comment this)

3 - Blake Ross has recently written about these tips. In the article he shows that this isn't only happenning with blogger but with several of google's products.

6 - Mário,

A sintaxe correcta é a que eu pus. Se fores ao Advanced Search e preencheres tal como tem lá no exemplo, sai o mesmo que eu escrevi. (Comment this)

7 - Rob,

It's not so much about self-promotion. It's whether placing a tip about Blogger on a search clearly limited to blog.com fits the "Do No Evil" motto.

Or, said in other words, no company can keep itself from doing evil. Google is just showing its claws. (Comment this)

8 - Rob,

M$ was sued when "trying to promote itself" offering IE along with Windows OS.

Google is walking on a very thin rope... (Comment this)

9 - M$ sells Windows. Google *offers* Google Search (and other services). As such, that's a big difference. You can always choose to use another search engine, or educate users to do so. Also, "Do No Evil" is a motto (not actual TOS) and, as far as i'm concerned, they have sticked by it. It seems to me that people are tired of targeting M$ and are looking for another company to criticize, but forget to realize that Google has to survive somehow and at least they're not harassing markets and governments into buying their software/services. (Comment this)
